Good if you can quit smoking. When people ask me how long did I smoke, I always say til it ruined my health then I quit. Funny how I happened to quit. My daughter in law bought me a really nice lace tablecloth. Said use it every day. Was getting ready to play dominoes while George put dishes in dishwasher. The cigarette I had laying in the ashtray fell over and burned my tablecloth. I put the package of cigarettes in the garbage and George said, "What are you doing?" I said, "I just quit smoking." When you start burning up stuff it is time to quit. I thought it would be hard to quit but as I remember it wasn't

But I should have done it many years before I was in my late fifties I think. However I was around 24 when I started. Very hard on the arteries.Worse on arteries than on the lungs I think. I smoked far too long. No one in my family ever smoked but me. they had better sense.

George smoked too as all the guys where he worked did. He quit the day he had a massive heart attack. We were in Reno at the time He had just retired and we were moving to New Mexico.

Something about my family.

I remember when I was little, my dad used to tell my brother and I stories. They always started the same way, "It was a Dark and Stormy night." Then you never knew what was next. He was a wonderful story teller. He took my brother and I on a trip. He said there were two kids the same age as us who decided to hitch hike around the country. So so we started on the west coast and he took us to the towns, told us what they grew or if there were factories there. Taught us all the capitals - we couldnt wait til night so we could get in bed one on each side of him while he continued the story. He was ill that winter so he went to bed really early. I'm sure my brother remembers as much as I do I think by the time I was six I knew all the capitals and a vast of info about the country.

My dad rode a bicycle from Atlantic City N.J.to Los angeles in l914. Met my mother on the way. She was on a hunting trip with a friend. Met in Nebraska. 23 days later they were married in Denver. They were married 48 years I think before he died.

I thought maybe this fudge recipe (never fails would be a good one)

FUDGE (never fails)
2 cups sugar
2/3 cups condensed milk (Pet)
Boil to form soft ball 240 degrees (six to seven minutes)
Be sure to put in very heavy pan and must be stirred
constantly or it will scorch

Put in Large bowl of mixer the following l Cube butter (Margarine if you plan to ship)
l 6 oz nestles chocolate bits
2 squares chocolate
1 tsp vanilla
Melt ll (eleven) marshmallows with 1tablespoon water in double boiler
add to mixing bowl with boiled mixture.
Add cup of chopped english walnuts if you like
Beat about six minutes
Put in buttered pan (I use an 8" x 8" pan)
